I am going to veer off the vine trellis a bit and give a shout out to one of my new favorites – a brewery on the square in Healdsburg, CA right across the street from Bistro Ralph’s.

A couple of summers back when I was cooking at Bohemian Grove, everywhere I went around the Russian River they had this IPA on tap called Racer 5 made by Bear Republic Brewing . It soon became one of my new favorites and now it is available in the Northwest. Before being seated at Bistro Ralph’s (they had a wait for Monday’s lunch) we headed across the square to see the bear. After drinking the Racer 5 IPA

in every bar up and down the Russian River from Monte Rio to Healdsburg, I was in Healdsburg on one of the hottest days of the summer. So I thought why not go to the source, they say beer is always at its best when consumed at the brewery. To my knowledge that is a truism, the best pint of Guinness I have ever tasted was in Dublin at the brewery and my favorite pint of Sam Adams was from the brewery in Jamaica Plain, MA.
