D'ARENBERG Shiraz/Syrah 2004
designation: The Footbolt McLaren Vale
vineyard: N/A
region: Australia
review date:
2007-02-17

I have tasted this wine in previous vintages and there has been a steady stream of winners. This vintage had been touted as a culmination by outside press not the vintner (a marketing move sometimes resulting in suicidal consequences). I will agree the wine reaches territory not often tread upon by Shiraz. Huge opening aromas of ripe strawberry sweet and juicy like they have in Stillwell Oklahoma at harvest in late spring; cocoa and spice with generous amounts of peppercorns combined with structure and grace in the mid palate and a finesse finish that will have you on your knees begging for more (MDME).
