Since getting back from Central Coast wine country, I've really gotten on a Pinot "kick." The Pinots I've been tasting have great fruit, texture, balance, and feel like silk. I'm looking at buying a few Pinots which I haven't tasted. If anyone has had these please let me know: Siduri 06 Keefer Ranch, Seasmoke 05 Soothing Vineyard, Belle Glos single Vineyard Pinots, Roads End 05 Oregon Pinot. Also, if anyone can recommend any Oregon Pinots please let me know. Eyedoc

Pam, thanks so much for the recommendations. I especially want to try Pinots by Elk Cove and Ken Wright. I've discovered there are so many "garage" wineries producing good Pinot in Oregon. If any of you have any favorites please let me know. Eyedoc

The Central Coast can do that to you. Hot days and very cool nights seem to make for good Pinot growing conditions, especially west of the mountains in Santa Barbara.

Check out my recent post in the Willamette section. The Oregon Pinots can give some of the best from Sonoma a "run for their money". BTW, there has been a recent series on public educational television "The Winemakers". It's about 12 want to be winemakers who are competing to make their own wine. Has anyone seen the series and what are your thoughts. Eyedoc

Hey eyedoc, I've been meaning to watch the Winemakers TV program. I've seen a couple clips and wrote about it a while back but haven't seen it yet! I'm wondering if there will be a third show.

RE: "Winemakers", educational TV has been running some repeats. If you have TIVO or DVR, bring it up and you'll probably be able to find it. BTW, the last episode was a question and answer from the "experts" to the "winemakers." One of the questions was gotten wrong by both. Did anyone catch it? Eyedoc

The question the panel asked the "winemakers" was: what is the difference between a Premier Cru in Bordeaux and a Premier Cru in Burgundy? The "winemakers" didn't know and the judges got it reversed? OK so what is the answer? Eyedoc

In Bordeaux, premier and grand cru is awarded to individual producers whereas in Burgundy, its by vineyard, not producer. How'd I do eyedoc, did I pass or fail

Great take on the difference between Bordeaux and Burgundy. You're right. Also in Bordeaux Premier Cru or first growth is the best of the best, the top. The classification was made in 1855. at that time only four Chateaux(producers) were named Premier Cru. Chateaux Mouton Rothschild was promoted in 1973. In Burgundy, Grand Cru is the best of the best,where Premier is scond best. And you are right it was awarded by vineyard not by producer. There are 33 vineyards designated grand Cru. The show "winemakers got the two reversed. BTW: this month's Wine Spectator has a great article on Oregon Pinots. Eyedoc
